Leicester city is the county town of Leicestershire. As one of the oldest cities of England, it has a long and colorful history stretching for almost two millennia back. In particular, it played major economic, political and social roles during the medieval, roman, renaissance and modern periods. The city is in fact filled with historical sights and remains such as the Loughborough Carillon, Belvoir Castle and the Leicester Cathedral which stood at the city’s heart for more than 900 years. Besides these two, there are other famous landmarks in Leicester like the Foxton Locks, Rothley Station, Rockingham Castle and Bosworth Battlefield Heritage and Country Park.
Today, the city has the second largest economy in the whole of East Midlands and continues to bring itself growth and prosperity through the dedication and hard work of its very own citizens and government in various industries and institutions. Here in Leicester, there are brilliant and renowned engineering companies such as Jones & Shipman, Trelleborg and Transmon Engineering. In the area of education, it home to numerous comprehensive and state-funded schools, and of course, you have one of England’s prestigious universities – the University of Leicester. The city motto of Leicester, “Semper Eadem”, which means always the same, can be interpreted in various ways. Well, as for our interpretation, it does not really matter.
